Take a look back on what happened on this day in the club's history. 

1999 – Sunderland came back from a goal down to beat Aston Villa 2-1. Kevin Phillips scored both goals to fire Sunderland to their fifth successive top-flight win.

1998 – A dramatic second half comeback saw the Black Cats turn a 2-0 half time deficit at the Hawthorns into a 3-2 victory. Captain Kevin Ball netted the winner four minutes from time.

1924 – Roker Park witnessed its first crowd in excess of fifty thousand as 55,642 watched the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United.
