safc.com looks back at what happened on this day in the club's history.
2009 – Darren Bent fired Sunderland to a memorable victory over Liverpool at the Stadium of Light after his shot on goal deflected off a beachballl, which had been thrown onto the pitch by the travelling fans, and bounced past a confused Pepe Reina and into the back of the net.
1987 – A John McPhail double seals an away win at Blackpool.
1966 – Defender George Kinnell, cousin of Jim Baxter, signed from Oldham Athletic for £20,000.
