1996 – Middlesbrough born Darren Williams signed from York City for £50,000

1977 – Sunderland returned to winning ways after a two month winless run. Goals from Kevin Arnott and Gary Rowell secured victory over Milwall.

1932 – Raich Carter made his Sunderland debut in a 3-1 defeat at Hillsbrough.
