1980 – Black Cats cult hero Nyron Nosworthy was born on Broxton, London.
1975 – Goals from Tony Towers, Billy Hughes and Pop Robson sealed a 3-1 win for Sunderland over Orient to keep them at the top of Division Two.
1962 – Sunderland won 3-2 at Everton in a League Cup third round tie in front of a 39,914 crowd.
