1997 – Goals from Lee Clark and Kevin Phillips sealed a 3-0 home victory over Tranmere Rovers.

1972 – Bob Stokoe was appointed manager of the club. The first decision he made was to reintroduce SAFC’s traditional black shorts instead of white as part of the home strip.

1923 – Record penalty scorer Billy Clunas signed from St Mirren for £2,500.
