Young striker is off the mark for Sunderland.
Today's trip down memory lane throws up a win over Stoke City, two League Cup victories and history made at the Riverside.
2010 – An Asamoah Gyan double sealed all three points for Sunderland when Stoke City visited the Stadium of Light.
2002 – Sunderland’s youngest ever captain, Rob Hindmarsh passed away, aged 41.
2002 – The Black Cats came back from 2-0 down to beat Arsenal 3-2 in the League Cup at Highbury.
1999 – Young striker Michael Reddy tapped home the rebound from Kevin Phillips’ saved penalty to rescue a point for Sunderland against Middlesbrough. Reddy, who was wearing the number 31 shirt, became the first SAFC player to score wearing a squad number higher than number 30.
1984 – Howard Gayle score in extra time to beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the fourth round of the League Cup.
