1957 - Future legend Len Ashurst (pictured) signed for Sunderland from Prescot Cables. Ashurst joined on part-time forms in order to complete his apprenticeship as a printer.

1952 - A 5-2 win over Wolves at Roker Park saw Sunderland move up to third place in Division One.
