Football aside: Southampton fan seeks US cancer treatment

A Southampton-based band have called on the generosity of Sunderland’s fans following the sad news that their lead singer has been diagnosed with cancer.

Father of two, Greg Gilbert, who is the lead singer and guitarist in Delays, has been diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer which has spread to his lungs.

Greg has been told that Chemotherapy will not work fully to remove the cancer which has left him with his only option to seek treatment abroad.

However, this has proved to be a major hurdle.

The singer is hoping to go to America for treatment but will need to raise £250,000 which is the quoted amount by specialists and will cover research into this new method too.

The band, Delays, will feature on the Stadium of Light’s half-time playlist at tomorrow’s Premier League match against Southampton.

Greg’s band perform covers from such well-known artists as Snow Patrol, Ellie Goulding, Craig David, Keane, The Macabees and Mumford and Sons.

They have donated items that are now up for auction with profits going fully to Greg and his treatment.
