Monty's birthday message: Happy birthday, George!

Jim Montgomery has paid tribute to the chairman of Sunderland’s Supporters Association George Forster on his 90th birthday.

Over the years George has dedicated his life to the club and raised thousands of pounds for various charitable causes.

George joined the Supporters Association in 1966 and has since established himself as one of the most recognised faces among Black Cats supporters.

Awarded a life-time season ticket ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, George was then surprised by David Moyes and Martin Bain as the Senior Supporters Association met earlier this week and awarded him a shirt and birthday cake.

On behalf of everyone at Sunderland AFC, 1973 FA Cup winner Montgomery has wished George a very happy birthday and recalled some fond memories of him.

“My first memories of George were when he was at Roker Park,” he said.

“George joined the committee in 1966 and from that point on we used to sign things and do various bits for him.

“He has done tremendous work and even though he is 90 he is still going strong and he does things that nobody ever sees.

“If George ever packed his work in then he would pack in because that is his life. He loves going down the shop and he loves people.

“He loves what he does, he has a passion for what he does and it’s great to wish him a very happy birthday,” he continued.

“He worships Sunderland because it has been his life for so long. When you are part of the club for as long as he has been you become part of the furniture.

“He has done so much for us and he is an honouree member of our association - we just love to see him.”
