Sunderland AFC are offering you the chance to be part of the Stadium of Light’s pre-match build-up.
The red and white army give the Lads that little bit extra to get over the line, but we want to make the SoL’s special atmosphere even better and create a cauldron of noise ahead of kick-off.
Ahead of each and home game we’re asking supporters to vote for their pre-match anthem to be played ahead of the game, with a focus on music which resonates with supporters and the region.
A matchday playlist complied by current players, members of the backroom and club legends will be published across the club’s Facebook and Twitter – as well as available to download on the club’s newly launched Spotify account.
Supporters will then be able to select their favourite tracks via a poll on the club’s Twitter @SunderlandAFC.
Speaking to safc.com, Frankie Francis of Frankie and the Heartstrings, who is helping lead the project, hailed the importance of engaging local fans and the local music.
“It’s a priority that the fans take part in the selection process of the tracks because we want people to feel that pre-match buzz from the moment they enter the Stadium of Light.
“The playlist will constantly evolve and fans will be asked to choose more tracks as time progresses, with our hope that we can build on the pre-match atmosphere while also giving a nod to the region’s rich musical heritage. “
He continued: “The body of the playlist will be built up with songs that already resonate with supporters with tracks that have emerged from the terraces, with other anthems selected to reflect what fans – young and old – listen to at home, in the pub or at a gig.
“It’s also important to mention that the playlist won’t interfere with tradition; Ready to Go will continue to greet the teams as they emerge from the tunnel and Provofiev will still ring around the SoL while we await their arrival, and so on.
“Anybody can get involved with this and hopefully we can make the Stadium of Light’s matchday atmosphere even better!”
