Award: LMA prize bagged yet again

Sunderland have been awarded the League Managers' Association LG Performance of the Week award – for the third time this season - following their dramatic 3-2 win over Chelsea last Saturday.

The five-man LMA Performance of the Week panel, compromising of LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that the Black Cats’ impressive win away from home was the standout display of the week.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce received the specially commissioned trophy – made by silversmiths and LMA partner Thomas Lyte of London.

Sunderland climbed out of the bottom three after two goals in three second-half minutes from Fabio Borini and Jermain Defoe saw them fight back for the dramatic win.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce said: "The immense character of the team has shown through.

"The recovery was magnificent. Everybody has played their part."
