Boxing: Summer Rumble returns to the SoL

The annual Summer Rumble boxing show returns to the Stadium of Light this summer with a card that promises to excite boxing fans.

The home of Sunderland AFC will once again open its doors to North East boxing fans for Summer Rumble 6 on Sunday 10 July. The card will see boxers from across the region take to the ring, with Martin Ward set to headline the event in a title event.

Martin’s younger brother, Tommy Ward, will also be in action as he continues to rise up the ranks after an impressive performance against Robbie Turley, taking his record to 17-0.

Home town favourites including Glenn Foot, Johnson Maclumpha and Isaac MacLeod will also be in action.

Thomas Essomba will be returning to the event with Phil Jeffries' latest signing Lewis ‘Sandman’ Ritson also taking to the ring alongside the likes of Warren Baister, Dan Walls, Jordan King, Darren Richardson and Scotland’s Stephen Simmons.

There will also be a local derby fight between James Barnes and Steve Cooper which is bound to be a thriller, with debuts for Adam Watson and Jay Hughes, who are expected to go a long way in the sport.

Phil Jeffries said: “The shows have been going from strength to strength over the last few years and this is largely down to the great crop of emerging talent and their willingness to take on challenges as they move through the ranks.”

Sunderland AFC commercial director Gary Hutchinson commented, saying: “Summer Rumble at the Stadium of Light is a huge part of our busy summer schedule here at the stadium and we look forward to welcoming boxing fans from across the region for what should be a fantastic night.”

Tickets for the event are priced at £35 - please call 07747 611020 for further details.
