News: Referees complete cycle challenge

Premier League referees Jon Moss and Martin Atkinson are set to complete a gruelling cycle challenge when they arrive at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.

As they arrive on Wearside, the match officials will have cycled to all 20 Premier League grounds in just nine days, to raise funds for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation.

The tour began at Watford’s Vicarage Road on July 12th and will finish an amazing 1,000 miles later at the home of Sunderland AFC.

Moss and Atkinson have been joined by colleagues from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) along the way and have tasked themselves with raising £50,000 for the two charities.

Speaking about the challenge, Jon Moss said: “It is going to be fantastic for me personally to finish in Sunderland as I’m from the area, but it will also be great to actually finish the ride! It’s a huge task for Martin and I, and while we have to keep fit in order to referee each week, this is a different kind of challenge. But we are keeping our spirits high and spurring each other on. We are grateful that the clubs have bought into what we’re doing and it’s all for two fantastic charities.”

The two match officials will cycle a lap of the Stadium of Light pitch on arrival to complete their challenge.
