Extension: Sunderland go global

Sunderland AFC has extended its partnership with broadcast giants, Global Radio, for the 2016-17 season.

The agreement marks the fifth consecutive season of working together for the club and Global Radio’s main North East stations, including Heart and Capital FM.

With almost 700,000 listeners tuning in across Global’s stations each week, the partnership supports the club in engaging effectively with its fans, whilst giving Global a unique way in which to reach its core audience. A key part of this engagement is the popular matchday Fan Zone, located directly adjacent to the stadium itself. The Fan Zone proved to be a big success with supporters last season, offering a relaxed environment for fans to soak up the pre and post-match matchday atmosphere and featuring Heart entertainment, live music, games, activities and competitions, along with appearances from former and current players.

Speaking about the partnership, Gary Hutchinson, commercial director at Sunderland AFC, said: “Over the last five years we have worked hand in hand with Global Radio across football, concerts and a range of other projects. Their enthusiastic and innovative work in our Fan Zone has helped to enhance our matchday experience for fans and the support they provide us in the promotion of the major music events we host at the Stadium of Light, along with many other areas of the business, has been invaluable.

“This season will mark five years of a partnership that we are very proud of and we are delighted to be able to continue working with Global Radio.”

Kim Miljus, Managing Director at Global Radio, said: “Global Radio is delighted to join forces with Sunderland AFC for the 16-17 season, for what is our fifth year of working together. Our partnership has grown stronger over the years, as we develop mutually beneficial campaigns that promote the passion of Sunderland AFC and some of the worlds’ biggest artists at the Stadium of Light concerts, to over 700,000 loyal Capital and Heart listeners that tune in every single week across the North East.

“We wish Sunderland AFC a great season and look forward to working with the team once again to make the partnership a continued success.”
