New season card campaign has fans at forefront.

Sunderland AFC announced details for 2014-15 season cards last week, featuring the club’s fans at the forefront of the unique campaign.

The ‘SAFC Legends’ campaign has seen the supporters take centre-stage on imagery, adverts and promotional activity, highlighting Sunderland’s belief that the true icons of any football club are the fans themselves.

With the Stadium of Light already one of the cheapest places to enjoy football, Sunderland AFC has taken the decision to reduce the price of every season card for 2014-15. Adult seats for the new campaign are available from only £370 and young people under 22 years of age have had the cost of their season card reduced by £90 to only £190. 

Junior supporters, aged under 16, will pay just £69 for a whole season and a special package in the stadium’s popular ‘Family Zone’ is only £395 for an adult and junior.

Every current season card holder has received a personalised renewal information booklet, which features an image of one of the stadium’s stands named after them and a number of fans have also been chosen to be immortalised as statues throughout the campaign literature.

Earlier this week the club launched the SAFC Legends campaign by temporarily renaming the east stand after a lifelong supporter who has renewed his season card for the 2014-15 season.

The east stand became the Brian Graham Stand, thanking Brian for his loyal support and it was something that the man himself was delighted with:

“I’m very proud and slightly humbled” said Brian. “I know so many Sunderland fans who deserve to have their names up there more than I do but it is brilliant to see. I’ve followed Sunderland for as long as I can remember, I was an 18 year old at the 1973 FA Cup final and now attend the games with my son and a huge group of my family. I think it’s fantastic that the club are choosing to acknowledge the supporters like this.”

The campaign also features a bespoke hashtag - #SAFCLegends - across the club’s social media activity which will announce further incentives for season card holders.

Numerous members of the first team have already taken to twitter, using #SAFCLegends to personally thank fans for renewing ahead of the new campaign.

Sunderland AFC’s commercial director, Gary Hutchinson, said: “Our fans are quite simply amazing and truly the heartbeat of the football club. We wanted to highlight this through our season card campaign, so in a departure from some of our previous campaigns where we have used players as the focus, this year we have featured real fans.”

A number of additional activities will take also place over the coming weeks as the campaign builds momentum, thanking fans for their continued support.

Supporters can purchase or renew their season cards making significant savings with prices reductions throughout the Stadium of Light.

Supporters can also spread the cost of their season card over eight months, free of charge, with the club’s interest-free payment option.

The deadline to sign up and take advantage of the price reductions is 5pm Friday 11th April, 2014.
