Club sad to hear of former defender's passing.
Sunderland AFC is saddened by the news that former centre-half William Walsh has died at the age of 90.
Walsh, who made 105 appearances for the Black Cats, passed away on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
The Durham-born defender joined the club one month into the new post-war era, spending seven years at Roker Park after making his debut in a 5-0 win over Charlton Athletic on 11 September 1946.
Walsh completed his career with spells at Northampton Town and Darlington, before moving to Australia in May 1955.
The thoughts of all at Sunderland AFC are with William’s friends and family.
