Over 120 delegates attend special event.
Sunderland’s medical department recently hosted a key event for some of the region’s leading lights from the world of sports medicine.
More than 120 delegates attended the north east meeting of BASEM (British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine) at the Stadium of Light.
Representatives from a number of professional football and other sporting clubs were joined by local consultants, physiotherapists and other practitioners from the NHS and private sectors.
A noted orthopaedic surgeon, Louw van Niekerk, was one of the keynote speakers alongside Geoff Hide – a consultant musculoskeletal specialist radiologist consultant – and York-based podiatrist Jonathan Draper.
The head of SAFC’s medical department, Dr Glen Rae, said: “We were delighted to be asked to host the event and it was a huge success.
“To have so many specialist clinicians in attendance was a fantastic learning opportunity for attendees and we hope this is only the latest in a long line of such events.”
A further NE BASEM event will be hosted on April 16, focusing on shoulder injuries.
