Record concert crowd witnesses Rihanna concert.
Sunderland’s Stadium of Light welcomed more than 57,000 music fans last night as Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour wowed Wearside.
The R&B superstar sparkled at what was the Stadium of Light’s biggest-ever concert, entertaining the tens of thousands of fans with her spectacular stage show.

At the end of a spectacular night, the Bajan star departed the stage with the words “Sunderland, I love you” – and from the crowd’s reaction, Sunderland loved Rihanna too.
Sunderland AFC commercial director, Gary Hutchinson, said: “Rihanna is one of the most popular artists in the world at the moment so to be able to welcome her to the Sunderland was simply fantastic.
"In terms of audience numbers, it was the biggest show we have ever staged at the Stadium of Light and it went very well overall, which is testament to the hard work of all of those involved.”
Sunderland’s summer concert season comes to an exciting climax on Saturday as the Stadium of Light stages the region's biggest-ever pop show, North East Live. Showcasing some of the biggest names in British music, the multi-artist show features 11 top acts including boyband sensations JLS and The Wanted, top girlband Little Mix, Rita Ora, and James Arthur.
