Guthrie entertains crowds in Black Cats Bar.
Sunderland fans that were in the Black Cats Bar ahead of Saturday’s game had an extra special treat as 1973 FA cup winner Ron Guthrie took to the hot seat for an extended pre-match chat.
The full-back, who made 77 appearances in his two years on Wearside after joining from Newcastle United in January 1973, had a catalogue of anecdotes that raised a few laughs.
Guthrie was part of Bob Stokoe’s FA Cup winning side and reminisced about what it was like to be part of the Sunderland side during that time.
He also spoke of his family ties in the game, as Guthrie’s cousin Graham Carr, father of comedian Alan, is chief scout at Newcastle United.
The talk-ins are part of Black Cats Bar matchdays, where fans can enjoy a dish of the day, free programme and take advantage of drinks offers.
