A day in the Family Zone

by Ashley Houghton

Matchday with the Moores.

Stewart Moore has been following Sunderland since 1984 and has been through many highs and lows as a Black Cats supporters – something he now wants his four children to be part of.

His eldest Marc, 23, has been a regular at Sunderland for 14 years and whilst 20-year-old Holly has lost interest in football, Patrick, 14, and Scarlett, 4, have re-found the family passion and are now regulars in the Family Zone at the Stadium of Light.

Scarlett has become an absolute menace for Stewart, when Saturday comes, from the moment she wakes up she is eager to get the ground to take part in the fun activities of the Family Zone and watch the game.

“She absolutely loves it,” Dad Stewart told safc.com.

“Every Saturday it’s ‘are we going to the game yet?’ which is really pleasing as a Dad – to know that she’s enjoying coming.

“The Family Zone is a fantastic idea, they keep putting more on offer and she loves it, my lads do too.”

Patrick and Marc reckoned they were playing up to the camera, but they loved every minute of the speed ball test, FIFA 13 Entertainment Zone and even joined their younger sister in getting their faces painted!

The family from Washington tend to arrive an hour-and-a-half before kick-off in order to soak up the atmosphere and all the events in the Family Zone.

Before the Norwich game, Scarlett picked up her regular souvenir, this time a woolly hat, before going over to the speed ball test with her brothers and her Dad who also tried his hand at the test.

This was prior to a competitive game of FIFA between Marc and Patrick, the first ending 0-0 outside before Marc was the victor when they played a re-match inside.

Scarlett, in awe of Samson and Delilah, Sunderland AFC’s official mascots, was taking in everything the Zone had to offer; she took part in the penalty-shootout and danced to the music, all whilst working her way through a hot-dog her dad was tasked with holding.

The lads finished their game of FIFA and headed over to Stewart and Scarlett before taking their seats 15 minutes prior to kick-off.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for the Moore’s and Stewart said he will be renewing his own Season Card as well as Marc and Patrick’s, whilst Scarlett could also be headed for her first year as a Junior Black Cat!
