G Force set to hit bar

by Ashley Houghton

Eric gates will take the hot seat this weekend.

Fans in the Black Cats Bar can catch up with Sunderland legend Eric Gates this Saturday.

The striker, who formed a famous partnership with Marco Gabbiadini in the late 1980’s, is set to take to the hot seat for a pre-match talk ahead of Sunderland's home clash with Everton at the Stadium of Light.

Gates made over 200 appearances in his five years on Wearside after joining from Ipswich town, where he was a UEFA Cup winner, in 1985.

Gates scored 54 goals for the Black Cats, 19 of which came in the Championship winning campaign of 1987/88 in which Gates and Gabbiadino bagged 40 of Sunderland’s 92 goals.

His final goal for the club came in the memorable 1990 play-off semi-final win at Newcastle United when he also cleverly created the winner for Gabbiadini.

Gates will be in the Black Cats Bar from 1.30pm on Saturday.

The talk-ins are part of Black Cats Bar matchdays, where fans can enjoy a complimentary home-cooked meal, free programme and take advantage of drinks offers.

Tickets are priced at £50, for more information call 0871 911 1500
