Zipwire returns to the SoL.
The Foundation of Light are holding a second ‘Zip Wear’ event, giving brave fundraisers the chance to cross the River Wear by zip wire from the roof of the Stadium of Light.
Taking place on October 13th, ‘Zip Wear’ will raise money for the Foundation of Light, the registered charity of Sunderland AFC, and Help for Heroes.
Zipping from the roof of the Stadium of Light, participants will travel for a distance of around 250 metres at up to 25 miles per hour, landing 45 metres below on the opposite bank of the river at Liebherr Cranes.
Registration to take part in the event is just £20 and participants are required to raise at least £100 in sponsorship.
The response and feedback we had to our first Zip Wear event was fantastic and every week I still get emails and phone calls asking when we’ll be doing it again.- Katrina Quinn, Foundation of Light
Alternatively, places can be bought outright for £120 making it an ideal gift for adrenaline junkies or SAFC supporters.
The event was first held in April and places sold out well in advance of the event, so early registration is advisable to avoid disappointment.
More than 400 fundraisers took part in the previous event, raising more than £25,000 for the Foundation of Light.
Foundation of Light Event Coordinator Katrina Quinn commented: “The response and feedback we had to our first Zip Wear event was fantastic and every week I still get emails and phone calls asking when we’ll be doing it again.
"Naturally we’re delighted to be able to give people another opportunity to take part in an event that definitely puts the ‘fun’ in ‘fundraising’
“We’d also like to express our thanks to Sunderland AFC and Liebherr Cranes and Sunderland Port Authority and the Home and Communities for helping make this possible.”
Spaces are limited and those interested in taking part should contact Jennifer Smith on 0191 5515153 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Participants must be 16 or over to take part and height and weight restrictions will apply. The closing date for registration is Monday 8th October.
The Foundation of Light, the registered charity of Sunderland AFC, uses the power of football to inspire, involve and educate children, families and adults across the North East through programmes that can improve their lives.
Structurally and financially independent of the football club the organisation relies on fundraising for 95% of project costs.
Help for Heroes supports veterans and serving personnel who have been wounded, injured, or become sick, as a result of serving our country.
The charity provides immediate, direct support to individuals as well as building long-term support for the future.
Additionally, their families and dependents receive support from the charity as they care for their loved one, and adapt to the new challenges that they face.
