Northumbria graduate collects club-sponsored award.

A rising star from Northumbria University has visited the Academy of Light to collect a special award.

Elizabeth Williamson, from Gosforth, graduated from the university this summer with a BSc (Hons) in Sport, Exercise and Nutrition.

She was named as the recipient of a special prize – sponsored by Sunderland AFC – after bagging the highest marks in her year.

The club has several links with the university and the Black Cats’ nutritionist, Dr Emma Stevenson, is Associate Director of one of the institution’s research centres.

Winner Elizabeth, who is pictured with Dr Stevenson and the head of Sunderland’s medical department, Dr Glen Rae, said: “I was speechless when I found out I was going to receive the award.

“I’m thankful to everyone and it’s a massive sense of achievement.”

Dr Stevenson added: “Links with educational institutions are important to the club and Elizabeth deserves this recognition.

“Sunderland AFC is delighted to sponsor the award and we look forward to continuing to strengthen new and existing relationships.”
