Sunderland players held up red cards at the recent team photoshoot to show their support for anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card.

The charity uses top football stars to educate against racism, with players at the club speaking to the organisation for use in their educational DVDs and pamphlets.

The charity has its origins in the north east and club legend Gary Bennett makes regular school visits and takes part in anti-racism workshops across the region.

Craig Bankhead, north east education manager at the charity, said: ““At Show Racism the Red Card, we’re very pleased to have a relationship with SAFC which allows us to continue to educate people about the dangers of racism.

“In the North East, we work with more than 12,000 young people every year delivering anti-racism education. We produce posters of all Barclays Premier League football clubs and most Football League clubs which are really effective in helping to convey a positive message.”
