Massive demand for tickets

by Kate Smith

Fans go crazy for Rihanna show.

Tickets went on sale this morning for what could be set to be the biggest ever concert staged at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.

Wearside is gearing up to welcome one of the world’s biggest music acts next summer, after global pop sensation Rihanna announced that she will perform at the home of Sunderland AFC as part of her huge ‘Diamonds’ world tour.

Ticket hotlines and websites have experienced unprecedented demand for tickets, with the Sunderland show being one of only three stadium performances on the UK leg of the tour (along with Twickenham in London and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff). Queues also stretched around the Stadium of Light itself as tickets went on sale at 9am.

SAFC’s commercial director Gary Hutchinson said: “Fans have turned up to the stadium in huge numbers over the last 24 hours, which is fantastic to see – this is really shaping up to be the hottest ticket of next summer’s music calendar.

“We’ve seen unprecedented early interest in the show and the concert promoters are certainly impressed by the demand for tickets. It’s great for us to be able to demonstrate that there is such a huge demand for top music acts here in the North East and the Stadium of Light continues to fly the flag when it comes to brining major events to the region.”

Only General Admission tickets priced at £50 and a limited number of Golden Circle tickets priced at £60 are available from the Stadium of Light ticket office – all other tickets can be purchased online at www.livenation.co.uk

The Stadium of Light’s ticket allocation is STANDING/UNRESERVED, which allows access to the pitch and the unreserved seats in Tier 1 of the stadium only or the Golden Circle. Patrons are permitted to purchase a maximum of eight tickets per person. A booking fee of £4.75 per ticket will be charged on ALL credit/debit card transactions. The booking fee does not apply to cash sales.

Purchasers will be issued with a voucher NOT a ticket. This voucher can be redeemed for an actual concert ticket nearer the time of the show.  If a voucher is lost it cannot be replaced.
