New sections set for debut

Singing section and Family Zone to debut this weekend.

The atmosphere at the Stadium of Light will be cranked up this season as thousands of red and white fans take their seats in the new South Stand singing section.

For the first time since its opening in 1997, the lower bowl of the stadium will be made up entirely of Sunderland supporters following the relocation of away fans to the Strongbow North Stand Upper area, creating an intimidating cauldron of noise for opposing teams.

The overwhelming winner of a survey run on earlier this year, almost 70% of votes were in favour of introducing a singing section at the Black Cats' 49,000-capacity home.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's home opener against Reading, striker Fraizer Campbell said: "The closer your home fans are to you the better and I'm sure the atmosphere will be even better than ever before this season.

"We are all looking forward to getting back out there at the Stadium of Light this weekend."

As part of the redevelopment, the South East Corner of the stadium has also been transformed into a Family Zone, where future generations of Sunderland fans can meet Samson and Delilah and take part in pre-match activities such as face painting before taking their seats to watch the Black Cats in action.

Season cards for the 2012-13 season are available for all areas of the Stadium of Light including the lively new home section in the South Stand and the fantastic Family Zone in the South East corner.
