Boss backs Foundation

O'Neill wows guests at pre-season event.

Sunderland AFC manager Martin O’Neill took time out of his busy pre-season schedule to attend the first event of the 2012-13 season held exclusively for Foundation of Light Corporate Members.

The manager was the star attraction at the annual ‘Tip Off Lunch’ at the Stadium of Light, where he fielded questions from guests keen to find out his thoughts on the club’s pre-season preparations, the forthcoming Barclays Premier League campaign and a variety of other topics. He also answered questions about his own playing career, before posing for photographs with guests.

Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones hosted the afternoon, with attendees enjoying a two course lunch in the Stadium’s Riverview Brasserie, followed by an in-depth chat with the Black Cats boss.

Talking about the event O’Neill commented: “The Foundation does some fantastic work within the community and it’s great to be able to take part in this event and meet some of the charity’s supporters who are instrumental in helping the Foundation achieve its goals.”

‘Tip Off Lunch’ is a special event organised for Foundation of Light’s Corporate Members. It is one of the many benefits that that members receive, alongside invitations  to ‘Top Scorer’ (a celebration event with members of the SAFC first team), a membership certificate of thanks from Chair of Trustees Sir Bob Murray CBE and priority booking for a range of Foundation events.

“It’s been an excellent afternoon,” said Foundation of Light Corporate Member Rod Smith, of Winstanley & Co. “I really enjoyed Martin’s forthright comments of how he sees the club and the future.

“The Foundation of Light does some very important work in the community and we at Winstanley & Co are big supporters of the charity. I live in Worcester so I have a 500-mile round trip to Sunderland. Of course I come for the football but I’ll do anything I can to help the Foundation.”
