Sunderland AFC are sad to learn of the passing of former physio John 'Jackie' Watters at the age of 92.

John spent almost 30 years as physiotherapist at the club, clocking up an incredible spell of service after joining in 1956.

He represented Celtic and Airdrie as a player and served as a medic in the Royal Navy in the Second World War.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, his children, Patricia, Frances, Maura and John, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The club would like to extend its sincere condolences to all John's friends and family.
