Preview: Under-21s set to host Leicester City

Sunderland Under-21s return to league action with a home fixture against Leicester City on Friday 22 February (7pm).

Opposition

Leicester City are currently 22nd in the Premier League 2 having played 16, winning three, drawing five and losing eight.

The Foxes have just one win in their last ten league fixtures. 

Tawanda Maswanhise and Silko Thomas are the current top goalscorers for the side with three goals each in the current campaign.

Ben Petty was confirmed the assistant U21s coach in 2016 and has since made the transition to lead coach.

Ben joined the Club from midlands side Aston Villa, where he spent several years working within their academy structure.

The former defender made over 200 senior career appearances before heading into coaching.

The 46-year-old featured for Stoke City, Hull City, Burton Albion, Moor Green and Redditch United.

The Premier League 2 

The Black Cats currently sit 13th in the league table having previously picked up a point in the last home fixture against Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur sit top of the pile with 12 wins from 15 and are closely followed up West Ham and Fulham.

Leeds United sit bottom with Manchester City and Newcastle making up the bottom three.
