Report: A hard-fought point on the road

Sunderland AFC Under-21s earned a hard-fought point on the road with a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion.

An end-to-end game ended in a stalemate despite Graeme Murty’s side creating the majority of the chances.

The young Black Cats dominated the opening proceedings, and the first big chance came 10 minutes into the half. Jones managed to beat his man and get to the byline before a lofted cross was cleared off the line by Mohammed to deny the opener.

Five minutes from the break and Taylor was once again involved. A threaded ball through the middle of the defence found the feet of Gardner, but effort was tame and into the arms of the ‘Keeper.

The Lads were inches away from the opener with 60 minutes on the clock. A very nearly goal of the season contender from Ellis Taylor as the forward struck the inside of the post with a left footed shot looping towards the far corner.

Bainbridge and Taylor linked up well on the left side with a one two that got the fullback to the byline and goal-line scramble and clearing denied Fieldson smashing in the opener with 20 minutes to go.

Graeme Murty and his side take home a point with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur coming up on Tuesday in the Premier League Cup.
