U21 Preview: Young Lads host Cardiff

SAFC Under-21s return to Eppleton for matchday three of the Premier League Cup group stage on Monday, taking on Cardiff City (KO 7pm).

The young Lads are on the hunt for our first point in Group H, after an encouraging display resulted in a narrow defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out.

Graeme Murty and John Hewitson are expected to have a near-full squad to select from of the youngsters in the U21s, with the potential for rotation after Murty hinted at changing around a handful of players from the Wolves visit. No first-team players will be involved, as the majority of Tony Mowbray’s squad embark on their Dubai training camp, with Bailey Wright and Jewison Bennette in Qatar with their national teams for the World Cup.

Cardiff City make the journey from South Wales having played just one group match, in which they were defeated 1-0 by Reading back in August. The Bluebirds compete in the Southern section of the Professional Development League, sitting third behind Bristol City and Millwall having won eight league matches and lost five, yet to draw. Their previous match last Monday saw Darren Purse’s side win 2-0 at his former club Birmingham City.

Entry to Eppleton for the PL Cup clash is admitted at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
