On the ball: U18s set for Foxes trip

Match guide to Sunderland under-18s’ trip to Leicester City this Saturday…

Date: Saturday 1 April 2017

Time: 11am

Location: Leicester City training ground

Competition: U18 Premier League

Leicester City: DLLLW

The Foxes entertain Sunderland this weekend on the back of a pleasing 1-0 win on home soil over Southampton last time out.

That slender victory brought an end to a frustrating run of three straight defeats, suffered against Norwich City, Southampton, Swansea City, and now Leicester City will be gunning for back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Sunderland: DLWLL

Mark Atkinson will be hopeful a two week break has done his side the world of good. While their form suggests they are finding life hard, their performances would suggest otherwise.

A 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the start of March saw the Black Cats pay the ultimate price for not taking their chances before a week later resulted in the same outcome. Atkinson’s side enjoyed a near perfect display against Wolverhampton Wanders, but once again missed a host of chances, and as a result they conceded in the last minute to lose 1-0.

The under-18s will head to Leicester on Saturday with one thought in mind . . . to be clinical in front of goal.

The Last five...

Apr 8 2016 – Sunderland U18 1-1 Leicester City U18
Apr 11 2015 – Sunderland U18 2-1 Leicester City U18
Sept 28 2013 – Leicester City U18 1-3 Sunderland U18

Focus: Lee Connelly

With 11 goals so far this season, top-scorer Lee Connelly has been in fine fettle. However, goals have been hard to come by for the youth team of late, and young Scotsman Connelly holds all the keys to breaking that hoodoo.
