Double delight: Maja pleased to be back among the goals

Josh Maja shared his delight to be back among the goals in Sunderland four-goal thriller at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

The 18-year-old came to the Black Cat’s aid on two occasions, scoring a brace to earn his side a share of the spoils against a stubborn Foxes outfit.

While Admiral Muskwe was on target inside five minutes, Maja showed great class in the 38th minute to draw the Lads level with a sumptuous chip over Daniel Iversen from 18 yards.

A slow start to the second period cost the Black Cats after the restart, though, Muskwe again the man well placed to poke home as Max Stryjek tried to limit the forward’s striking angle.

But Maja struck back right at the death, again showing great composure to send Iversen the other way from the penalty spot after Ethan Robson was fouled.

“I’m really pleased because the hard work is starting to pay off,” Maja smiled.

“I’m trying to help the team by scoring goals, against Leicester I did that but I want to help the team win games and hopefully we can do that in the next game.

“The first goal I scored was a nice one, I kept my eyes on the keeper, waited for him to go down and then just dinked it over with him – I’m very happy with that goal!

“We have done very well in the cups this season, and of course that is pleasing, but our results haven’t been as good in the league.

“We have worked hard and put in some good performances but our results haven’t shown that,” he added.
