Three Lions: Embleton honoured to represent England

Elliot Embleton is savouring every chance he gets to don a national shirt, admitting pride surrounds every international opportunity.

The 17-year-old midfielder has been included in Neil Dewsnip’s England under-18s team which has travelled to the Middle East for three matches in six days.

With the first of a double-header against Qatar up first for the young Lions today, Dewsnip’s youngsters will have to deal with high temperatures and extreme humidity in the intense Qatari climate.

Speaking to safc.com ahead of the young Lion’s first international test today, Embleton admitted he is relishing the opportunity to don the national shirt once again.

“It is always an honour to play for your country at any level,” he said.

“I have been very fortunate to play for my country quite a bit this season so I suppose that’s a reward for my performances at Sunderland.

“I’m really excited about playing in Doha but I know it’s going to be hard because it is a completely different climate.

“It will be a great experience and hopefully this will help me achieve my long-term aims.

“I always try to make the most of every chance I get at international level and this opportunity will be no different.”
