Stryjek: Stopper highlights pleasing display

Max Stryjek admitted there are only positives to take from Sunderland under-23s’ draw against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Polish stopper produced a string of fine stops between the sticks as the young Black Cats collected their third straight clean sheet.

While Ethan Robson and Luke Molyneux were denied by the crossbar, Josh Maja also had an effort hooked off the line as the lads drew a blank at the other end.

But Stryjek has focused on the positives and praised his team-mates for a producing a performance full of positives.

“We are happy because it’s our third clean sheet in a row and hopefully that will help everyone to keep going,” he said.

“We didn’t beat Liverpool but we can be happy with our performance nevertheless because we created some good chances.

“If we had scored and won the game 1-0 then we would’ve looked back at the game differently but we are still happy because it’s a good points against a very good team.

“The lads gave everything they could give and I think there’s plenty to be positive about going into Friday’s match against Manchester City.”
