Academy: Dickman ready for Wear-Tees clash

Elliott Dickman has instructed his players to stick to what they know best ahead of Saturday’s Wear-Tees derby against Middlesbrough.

Last weekend saw the young Black Cats’ four game unbeaten run halted as Manchester City stretched their undefeated run in the U18 Premier League to 16 games.

However, following a positive weeks training under his team's belts, confidence is high in the camp ahead of the arrival of Middlesbrough to the Academy of Light on Saturday.

Speaking to safc.com, Dickman urged his players to build on their encouraging displays and continue to stay true to the club’s principles.

“What we have done well in the last few months is that we have worked hard, stuck together as a team,” he said.

“Our play has been better and our decision making has improved so there are plenty of positives to build on but we have got to make sure we stick to what we are good at.

“We have got to carry on improving and when you know your performances are good then you know you will have chances to win games.

“It will be a tough game on Saturday against Middlesbrough but if we stick to the plan, stick to what we are good at then hopefully we will be up there.”
