Flying Scotsman: Double delights Connelly

Lee Connelly is savouring every goalscoring chance he gets, admitting that’s what he loves to do.

Just 16, the Scotsman has struck an impressive nine times in 12 starts for the young Black Cats this season with his latest double helping his lads advance to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup at the expense of Shrewsbury Town.

With a goal either side of George Hassall’s impressive header, Elliot Embleton then wrapped up the tie up as Connelly turned provider to round off a five star showing.

In what was an accomplished display from Elliott Dickman’s side, with Michael Woud also making an impressive penalty stop in the closing stages, Connelly told safc.com he is relishing every chance he gets to score.

“It was good to carry on from the last cup match when I scored then,” he said.

“I love scoring goals, it’s what I love to do and now it’s even better because the team have started winning as well which is better for us.

“It’s good to get through to the next round and start the year with a win. With Newcastle United in the next round of the cup there will be an extra bit of interest.

“We are all looking forward to it and we know it’s another great chance to show what we can do,” he continued.

“With Manchester City on Saturday hopefully we can keep the run of form we are on.

“We know it’s going to be tough but hopefully we can stay compact, contain what they have and make it hard for them.”
