Premier League Cup: Brady targets more clean sheets

George Brady has hailed defensive solidarity as Sunderland under-23s look to build on the clean sheet collected from Derby County in midweek.

Chances came and went for the Black Cats as Andrew Nelson and Rees Greenwood went a whisker away from handing them three points at a fog-swept St George’s Park.

However, after being unable to find a route through at one end, Brady and his team-mates held firm at the other end to secure a valuable clean sheet.

With no time to waste, though, ahead of Sunday’s Premier League Cup match at Eppleton Colliery Welfare (kick-off 12pm) against Cardiff City, Brady has paid tribute to the defensive efforts of his team-mates.

“The last time we played Cardiff we should’ve won the game because we conceded in the last minute,” he said.

“We are back in frame and it was good to keep a clean sheet against Derby – now it’s just a case of scoring at the other end.

“The boys are good enough to do it and we have just got to get our confidence back up because that’s what it’s all about.

“We have got to work together and I hope we’ll be able to pull a win out,” he continued.

“Defending always starts from the front and I thought we defended much better than we did this week than last week.

“That goes from the front to the back and obviously our back four is solid, we showed that last season and we showed that at Derby County on Wednesday.”
