Interview: Robson delighted to work with Dickman

Josh Robson believes new Sunderland under-23s boss Elliott Dickman will pick up where Andy Welsh left off as the lads prepare for Manchester City on Friday evening.

Following Andy Welsh’s departure to Championship side Wigan Athletic last month, youth team boss Dickman has been presented with the chance to step into the under-23s set-up.

While Dickman watched from the dugouts as the young Cats were held at home to Liverpool last Sunday, he has enjoyed his first week in his new role with a trip to Premier League 2 title-hopefuls Manchester City on the horizon.

Speaking to safc.com, full-back Robson shared his excitement over being reunited with Dickman following his younger years in the academy.

“I have worked with him in previous years so it will be good to work with him again,” he said.

“Most of the lads in the dressing room have worked with him and already know what he is about and how he likes to play.

“He knows pretty much everything there is to know about us so he knows how we like to play and he has been at our matches previously this year so it’s nothing new to him.”

He continued: “I’m looking forward to it because it’s a different challenge now but there won’t be much change to the way we play although I’m sure he will look to implement a few things.”
