U23s: Hume keen to turn things around

Denver Hume is determined to put Monday’s disappointment behind him as Sunderland under-23s continue to chase their first league win of 2017.

Elliott Dickman’s side faced an uphill task inside five minutes when Kazaiah Sterling capitalised on an error from stopper Max Stryjek.

And that proved to be enough, as the young Black Cats struggled to get beyond Spurs’ resolute backline with the post coming to deny Joel Asoro’s best effort in the second period.

However, full-back Hume is determined to help turn the development squad’s Premier League 2 form around following back-to-back defeats.

“It was very frustrating to concede early on,” he said.

“I thought after we conceded they didn’t create too many chances but we had some chances ourselves and didn’t take them.

“It’s very disappointing to concede that goal so early on because that has cost us in the end.

“We responded very well when they scored and we did very well,” he continued.

“We had to get back together quickly and respond as a team and make sure we didn’t concede any more chances which I didn’t think happened.”
