U18s: Defender previews West Midlands trip

Jacob Young believes Sunderland under-18s can turn their U18 Premier League season around when they head to West Bromwich Albion this Saturday.

The young Black Cats have endured a frustrating start to the 2016-17 campaign following defeats to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Stoke City, Middlesbrough and Newcastle United.

Yet to earn their first points of the season, Young insists a solid week of training at the Academy of Light will put the youth team in a good position to build on the patches of optimism.

“Every game is important but hopefully this weekend we can bounce back from the tough start we have had and I’m sure all the lads are looking to do that as well,” he said.

“It has been hard but we are working hard to make sure we turn our season around because we believe we can do that.”

“As a team we all did our jobs well (against Newcastle) and I think now we need to make sure we emulate that kind of performance again on Saturday and hopefully we will be able to grind out a result.”

He continued: “Lee played really well in pre-season, scored lots of goals, so it’s great to have him back in the team and hopefully he can rekindle his goalscoring touch in the league on Saturday.”
