The young Black Cats have endured a challenging start to the season and remain pointless after five games. While a spirited display at West Bromwich Albion last weekend ended in the same fate, Elliott Dickman’s side return to Wearside with renewed optimism ahead of their home fixture against an undefeated Manchester City this Saturday.

Manchester City U18: D-W-W-D-W

Second-place Manchester City arrive at the Academy of Light this Saturday, with three wins from their first five games.

After an opening day draw at home to West Brom, back-to-back victories over Everton and Liverpool saw them score 11 times in their opening three matches.

Blackburn Rovers then secured a point off City before the Citizens returned to winning ways last week with a 2-0 victory over Manchester rivals, Man United.

Focus: Jacob Young

A tall, commanding left-footed defender with an excellent hard-working attitude, Young is settling well at the Academy of Light. Having been a constant feature in the youth team’s heart of defence, Young has displayed a calmness in possession that will hold Sunderland under-18s in good stead this season.
