Embleton: Midfielder set on winning

Elliot Embleton believes Sunderland under-23s' trip to Cardiff City has come at the perfect time.

The young Black Cats raced out the blocks at the start of the campaign and moved top of the Premier League 2 at the start of September following a hard fought victory at Everton.

While impressive victories over Southampton and Leicester City were also bagged, the development squad have hit a stumbling block in recent weeks following defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool.

However, with a trip to south Wales on the horizon for Andy Welsh’s side, as they begin their Premier League Cup campaign, Embleton believes the timing of the game allows the team to regain their confidence.

“It has been a good start to the season and I feel as though we have performed well,” he said.

“I have played out of position for most of the games so I still have plenty to give.  I’m always keen to score more goals and do my best to help the team, hopefully we can get back to winning ways against Cardiff.”

“They are going to be physical and direct but we have got the quality in our team to go there and get a result.

“We have been beaten twice in our last two games but Cardiff is a good chance for us to get back on track, win games and stake our claim for Tuesday’s game at Hartlepool United.”
