Preview: Dickman sets targets ahead of West Brom

Elliott Dickman is confident Sunderland under-18s can turn their season around when they visit West Bromwich Albion this Saturday.

The young Black Cats have endured a challenging start to their U18 Premier League campaign, losing all of their opening four fixtures.

However, the youth team have taken inspiration from last Saturday’s match against Newcastle United which despite their resilient efforts saw them fall at the final hurdle.

Speaking to safc.com Dickman believes if his young guns can emulate the same desire then they will be able to earn some points this weekend in the West Midlands.

“When you look at the results you can say we have struggled in every one of our games,” he said.

“But we have been quite pleased with what we have done and we are slowly getting to a point where we are reducing opportunities for the opposition to score and that’s good.

“The next step is then obviously for us to build on our own play going forward and while the result was disappointing last weekend there were plenty of positives.”

He continued: “The boys have put enough into games to deserve more out of them so we are slowly getting to that point and hopefully we can get there this Saturday.

“Their attitude and effort on a daily basis has been really, really pleasing. They are all fully committed to what we do and their quality is getting better so it’s just a case of getting some points now.”
