U18S: Connelly on goalscoring form

Lee Connelly has vowed to rekindle his goalscoring form from pre-season to help turn around Sunderland under-18s' fortunes.

The young Black Cats have endured a challenging start to the season and so far netted just three times in six U18 Premier League games as they continue to chase their first points of the campaign.

With preparations in full swing ahead of the youth team’s trip to Merseyside on Saturday, Connelly, who struck 10 times in five pre-season games, has told safc.com he needs to recapture his ruthless streak to help the under-18s climb the league.

“I scored goals for fun in pre-season so I now need to make sure I get back to that this weekend,” he said.

“I need to put more pressure on myself this weekend because I haven’t scored this season and I have had some good chances to get off the mark.

“I need to help the team and hopefully I can do that this weekend at Everton so we can get some points on the board.

“If we can get a win or a draw then that will allow us to kick on and that’s important because it’s been a tough start," he continued.

“If we can get the first goal then that would be a massive boost as well because it would give us a lot of confidence and allow us to kick on..”
