Fast start: Dickman previews Liverpool encounter

Elliott Dickman is targeting a fast start when Sunderland under-18s head to Liverpool on Saturday.

The young Black Cats resume their U18 Premier League campaign on Merseyside this weekend following a two week break.

Refreshed and recharged, the young guns have enjoyed a solid weeks training at the Academy of Light as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

However, the youth team head to Liverpool in high spirits as they have recorded back-to-back draws on the road following points at Everton and Manchester United.

Speaking to safc.com, Dickman has called for more of the same from his players as they continue to chase their first league win of the campaign.

“We have recharged our batteries (after not playing last weekend),” he said.

“We expect them to hit the ground running and continue the sort of performances they have shown in previous games. We also want them to show the same attitude they have done for most of the season.

“(Looking back at our last game) we conceded after 12 minutes and that was a blow because we had started the game quite well, and then we conceded again right before half time.

“We regrouped at half time and we tried to change the game and there was a better performance after the break. We need to continue with that kind of spirit.”
