U18s: Connelly eyes momentum

Lee Connelly is aiming to maintain his goalscoring streak when Sunderland under-18s head to Manchester United this Saturday.

The young Scotsman netted his first goals for the club last weekend as he scored a hat-trick at Everton.

While Connelly’s goals had put the young Black Cats into a commanding 4-1 lead, the Toffees hit back as Elliott Dickman’s side surrendered their three-goal cushion to leave Finch Farm with just a point.

Speaking to safc.com the striker admitted it was a relief to get off the mark for the season but has now challenged his team-mates to build on the positives from that game against Manchester United this Saturday.

“It was good for me to finally get some goals in the league and it was great for Brandon (Taylor) to get a goal as well so we can be pleased with that,” he said.

“We would’ve taken a point before the game so in one sense we are pleased but having been 4-1 up we were disappointed to let them come back into the game and take two points off us.

“It’s nice to get a point on the board though and we need to build on that this weekend against Manchester United.

“We need to make sure we go down to Manchester United in the same vain as we did at Everton,” he continued.

“We need to play tough and make it hard for them and then hopefully I can score more goals and we can get our first win of the season.”
