Composure: Asoro relishing Rams clash

Joel Asoro is feeling positive ahead of Sunderland under-23s' return to Premier League 2 action tonight against Derby County.

The young Black Cats host the Rams at the Stadium of Light (kick-off 7pm) with high hopes of clinching their first league win in three games.

And while Darren Wassall’s side head to the north east 11th after six games, Asoro is well aware of the threat the East Midlands club can pose following two wins in their last three games.

Speaking to safc.com, the 17-year-old also admitted he is hoping to get among the goals following his goalscoring efforts with Sweden under-21s during the international break.

“It was very nice to get a goal as it was only my second game for them so I didn’t expect it,” he said.

“It gives me confidence when I score goals, even in training, as a striker that’s what you always want and it inspires you to do more things.

“It’s going to be hard and that’s what I have learned in every under-23s game I have played.  We can’t just go out believing we are going to win because we need to do everything we can to try to get a goal early and see where that takes us,” he continued.

“If we win this game it will be great because it will give the whole team a boost and it could help us to win the next game and then the one after that as well.

“All we can do is listen to the coaches, work together as a team and hopefully we can earn three points.”
