Preview: Welsh looks to continue form

Andy Welsh has set his sights firmly on three points when Sunderland under-23s welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Wearside this evening.

The young Black Cats head into the Premier League 2 fixture on the back of four straight victories after a lull of six games without a win.

However, now reinvigorated the Lads host a Spurs side who haven’t clinched three points since August and have lost four of their last five games.

Speaking to safc.com, Welsh admitted now isn’t the time to take anything for granted and urged his players to continue to ride the crest of the wave they are on.

“We’ve got a nice unbeaten run going of four games and we have now got to try and maintain that,” he said.

“Tottenham are a good side, they are young with technically gifted players but they are looking forward to it and hopefully we can be at our best again.

“It was a really welcome three points at Manchester United last week.

“The league this year is very tight and the quality of the teams has improved this year.

“It makes it a good league for development. It’s important to get the points and we will be looking to get some more on Monday.”
