Talbot: Stopper delighted to be back

James Talbot has admitted he is delighted to be back after making his long-awaited return last Friday.

The Irishman has been sidelined since the start of the season but has made good progress and was named on the bench for Sunderland under-23s’ trip to Arsenal last week.

While the result went against the development squad, Talbot has revealed the reaction in training has been positive as the Lads shift their attention to tonight’s Premier League Cup match at home to Blackburn Rovers.

Speaking to safc.com, the ‘keeper admitted he is keen to gain some minutes on his road to recovery and is hopeful the young guns can return to winning ways.

“It felt great to be back and involved,” he said.

“The result wasn’t great but it was good to be back with the lads and in the changing room.

“I have been working in the gym a lot so hopefully that work pays off and I can get some minutes under my belt to show people what I can do.

“Blackburn won’t be a push over and we will have to be at our best to get the job done professionally. A win and a clean sheet would do fine.”

He continued: “Training has been good this week, we had a chat and I think we will bounce back and put things right tonight.”
